Learning vi with Final Fantasy

I bought a DS Lite a little while ago. I was playing Final Fantasy III last night and remembered an observation I made a while back.

I've always enjoyed the design of the Final Fantasy user interface. I know it's not exclusive to FF, but there are a few concepts that have been consistent over the last 12 releases in the FF series.
Basically, it's designed a lot like vi/vim. You use a special key to switch between edit and command modes. When in edit mode the d-pad moves your character through space. When in command mode, it moves a cursor. It's no wonder that learning vi came so easily to me ....

Anyways, there's my random thought of the day.
